Even though Mother’s Day is over, you can still surround yourself and your loved ones with <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/11/03/how-to-be-a-natural-beauty/" target="_blank" >natural beauty</a> and intoxicating aromas in every room with this list of our seasonal favorites. For the best organic picks, stop to smell the flowers at your local <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/09/16/how-to-shop-at-the-farmers-market/" target="_blank" >farmers&#8217; market</a>.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Living Room. </strong>Casa Blanca Lilies are large and stunning; perfect for your living room. An oriental hybrid, this ravishing variety features large clusters of white petals that lend a professional look and enchanting fragrance.</p>
<p><strong>Kitchen.</strong> Sunflowers bring a burst of cheer to your kitchen with their large daisy-like blooms of orange, yellow, and bronze. Plus, they don’t have an overwhelming fragrance so there’s no distraction from your culinary creations.</p>
<p><strong>Bathroom.</strong> With its fresh, clean aroma, lavender adds a petite and delicate accent to your bathroom. Since bathrooms tend to be smaller, it’s better to avoid large vases. Lavender is darling tied in rustic bundles or displayed in a small vase on the counter.</p>
<p><strong>Bedroom.</strong> Delicate and romantic, sweet peas come in pinks, blues, and purples complementing any style bedroom. Place them bedside and their delightful scent will enchant your <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/03/15/sweet-green-dreams/" target="_blank" >dreams</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Dining Room.</strong> Orchids lend a dramatic display without an overpowering fragrance when you’re eating. Place them in tall cylinder vases filled with water for a gorgeous centerpiece or feature a single orchid for a classic simple look.</p>
<p><em><strong>Your Daily Thread tip:</strong> Use a <a href="http://www.bhg.com/decorating/home-accessories/flower-arranging/creative-flower-arrangement-containers/" target="_blank" >variety of containers</a> for a unique arrangement. Whether it’s classic, rustic or modern, get creative with your displays. Try single stems in separate bottles, mix and match varieties, or go big for drama!</em></p>

<p>Forget the Benz and three-figure salary; women today are vying for eco-empathetic gents—the ones who nurture themselves and Mother Earth. There&#8217;s something stirring about the way <em>Mad Men</em>&#8216;s Vincent Kartheiser gets around Los Angeles via <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/03/fashion/03With.html" target="_blank" >the subway and buses</a> (an effort seen by just 10 percent of city dwellers). Equally alluring is Tobey Maguire&#8217;s vegetarian-made six-pack physique. Discover these hotspots for men who care about the planet as much as they do about you.</p>
<p><strong>Eat </strong></p>
<p>Ever wonder why green men are so fit? They don&#8217;t skip the organic and vegetarian nutrition. Browse local produce with him at the <a href="http://www.farmersmarketla.com/" target="_blank" >Original Farmers Market</a>, where starting Memorial Day, summer music festivals will be held every Thursday and Friday night. (Bonus: Being outdoors you&#8217;ll avoid unflattering supermarket neon lights and wow him with <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2008/07/16/a-healthy-glow/" target="_blank" >sun-kissed skin</a>).</p>
<p>Niki Tehranchi&#8217;s made-from-fresh <a href="http://www.eatzla.com/" target="_blank" >EATZ</a> cooking classes offer a dinner party setting, plus ample <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/03/25/sip-to-spring/" target="_blank" >wine</a> offerings while cooking a three-course meal—it&#8217;ll have you chatting up the nearest hottie in an apron before you finish your first appetizer.</p>
<p>Every Thursday, connect with eco-minded gents at <a href="http://lagreendrinks.blogspot.com/"  target="_blank" >LA Green Drinks</a>. Upcoming: May 5: Westside; May 12: Hermosa Beach; May 19: Silver Lake; May 25: Downtown.</p>
<p><strong>Stretch &amp; Sip</strong></p>
<p>Indulge in organic wine (courtesy of Silver Lake Wine) at Yogala&#8217;s <a href="http://www.yogalaechopark.com/" target="_blank" >Yogala Vinyasa &amp; Vino</a> Thursday class. Merlot got you feeling gutsy? Ask out that quiet but strapping yogi guy while he helps you with these <a href="http://www.glamour.com/health-fitness/blogs/vitamin-g/2009/08/the-perfect-yoga-moves-for-you.html" target="_blank" >sex-drive-boosting poses</a>. And try out <a href="http://yogimixers.com/" target="_blank" >Yogi Mixers</a> every second Friday of the month.</p>
<p><strong>Mingle at the Market</strong></p>
<p>Sample this flea market and the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/features/image/la-ig-street-fashion-mtp-pictures,0,3533713.photogallery"  target="_blank" >dapper gents</a> who browse its vintage wares at <a href="http://www.melrosetradingpost.org/"  target="_blank" >Melrose Trading Post</a> every Sunday.</p>
<p>Cruise into <a href="http://ciclavia.wordpress.com/" target="_blank" >CicLAvia</a> where fixed gear bicycles are almost as plenty as the athletic hunks who ride them. Follow them on Twitter @<a href="http://twitter.com/#%21/cicLAvia" target="_blank" >CicLAvia</a> for upcoming cycle soirees.</p>
<p>Whether it&#8217;s home decor or stationery, every man appreciates a well-crafted good; find both at <a href="http://www.treepeople.org/green-city-fair"  target="_blank" >Tree People&#8217;s Green City Fair</a> and <a href="http://uniquela.com"  target="_blank" >Unique LA</a>, May 7 and 8.</p>

<ul>
<li>Go Veg!  Say “Thanks, but no thanks,” to <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2009/05/04/resources-for-living-meat-free/"  target="_blank" >meat</a>.</li>
<li><a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/05/18/how-to-bike-in-l-a/" target="_blank" >Ride your bike</a> whenever you can and save money and gas <em>and</em> get some exercise in too!</li>
<li>Swap out as many bulbs as possible with energy efficient CFL’s (compact fluorescent light bulbs).</li>
<li>Turn off the <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/10/15/to_the_very_last_drop/" target="_blank" >water</a> while you are brushing your teeth and scrubbing your face.</li>
<li>Be sure to always have a <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/04/19/a-better-bottle/"  target="_blank" >reusable      water bottle</a> on hand.</li>
<li>Disconnect electronic items when not in use. It might sound like a pain, but there are great power strips, like the <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/11/16/simple-green-tools-you%E2%80%99ll-really-use/" target="_blank" >Smart Strip</a> or <a href="http://www.notestation.com/greenpowerstrip.htm" target="_blank" >DSI Green Power Strip</a>, which has one main source so all you have to do is flip one switch and the job has been done for you.</li>
<li>Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible and use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying.</li>
<li>Be more cognizant of what you are <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/04/21/earth-day-in-la-ydts-recycling-guide/" target="_blank" >throwing in the trash</a>. Make <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2008/04/22/happy-earth-day/" target="_blank" >sorting bins</a> if you don’t already have them. Take batteries and electronics to the proper disposal facilities.</li>
</ul>
<p>Here are a few fun, green things you can do with friends or family:</p>
<ul>
<li>Join a park or beach cleanup with groups like <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2009/04/13/beach-basics-clean-up-with-heal-the-bay/"  target="_blank" >Heal      the Bay</a> and the <a href="http://www.surfrider.org/"  target="_blank" >Surfrider      Foundation</a>.</li>
<li>Plant a tree – visit the <a href="http://www.arborday.org/"  target="_blank" >Arbor Day</a> site for      more information.</li>
<li>Green thumb or not, start your own <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/04/18/green-thumb-not-required/"  target="_blank" >succulent</a> or <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/03/22/who-needs-a-yard/"  target="_blank" >indoor      herb garden</a>.</li>
<li>Turn trash into treasure! Refurbish an old sofa, chair or even a <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/08/16/how-to-make-a-layered-necklace-out-of-an-unwanted-t-shirt/" target="_blank" >garment</a>. Get crafty and creative and you just might produce a <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/09/10/how-to-make-hanging-flowers-out-of-plastic-bottles/" target="_blank" >work of art</a>!</li>
<li>Take a leisurely stroll to your local <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/09/16/how-to-shop-at-the-farmers-market/"  target="_blank" >farmers’      market</a> and pick up some seasonal ingredients for this      weekend’s <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2011/04/22/eco-eats-for-earth-day/"  target="_blank" >eco-friendly      feast</a>.</li>
<li>Check out some of the <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/events/"  target="_blank" >Green events</a> taking place      around town.</li>

<p>With nearly one hundred Certified Farmers&#8217; Markets scattered across Los Angeles County, there is bound to be one thriving in your neighborhood. And chances are, they offer so much more than just fresh fruits and vegetables. From kimchi to Manchego, specialty vendors at the West Hollywood Farmers&#8217; Market have got the big box grocery stores beat in quality and value. Pop in this week and explore the unique bounty your local market has to offer.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Les-D%C3%A9lices-Du-Four-French-Bakery/82077270933"  target="_blank" >Les Delices Du Four</a></strong></p>
<p>Real butter. They use real, slow-churned butter! Using only the highest quality ingredients yields beautiful results like their crunchy loaf of French bread. Plus, their prices are unbeatable at $2 a loaf. Picnic, anyone?</p>
<p><em><strong>Also try:</strong> Pineapple &amp; Coconut Pastry.</em></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Daves-Gourmet-Korean/189264461091628"  target="_blank" >Dave&#8217;s Gourmet </a></strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Daves-Gourmet-Korean/189264461091628"  target="_blank" ><strong> </strong><strong> </strong></a><strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Daves-Gourmet-Korean/189264461091628"  target="_blank" > Korean Food</a></strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Dave creates highly addictive vegetarian and preservative-free offerings such as kimchi, miso and his secret-recipe tempha that is a perfect alternative to meat.</p>
<p><em><strong>Also try:</strong> Dave’s Organic Spicy Tofu.</em></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://cheesecorner.net/"  target="_blank" >Laurent Bonjour&#8217;s Cheese Corner</a></strong></p>
<p>Some things are simply worth investing in. Great cheese is one of them. Laurent’s cheese is undeniably amazing and a perfect addition to your loaf of bread. Our favorite? The savory Manchego.</p>
<p><em><strong>Also try:</strong> Laurent’s Organic Salad Dressings/Marinades.</em></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gamafarms.com/"  target="_blank" >Gama Farms</a></strong></p>
<p>Free-range, non-GMO grain fed chickens produce this farm’s beautiful brown speckled eggs. Following organic farming methods, most eggs arrive at the market within three days of harvest and make for yummy Sunday morning omelets. Make sure you also take a gander at Gama’s produce.</p>
<p><em><strong>Also try:</strong> Brooks, Rainier &amp; Bing Cherries in May.</em></p>

<p>He loves me. She loves me not…regardless you’d better go on a darn good date, right?  Here are five green dates to try with that special (or not so special) someone:<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Bicycle Through L.A.</strong></p>
<p>Seeing the city on two wheels instead of four certainly changes your view and perspective.  Fortunately huge chunks of L.A. are flat so why not <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/05/18/how-to-bike-in-l-a/" target="_blank" >try bicycling from Downtown L.A. to Venice</a>?  Believe it or not, it only takes about 2-3 hours.</p>
<p><strong>Kayak for a Cause</strong></p>
<p>Renting kayaks on the Marina is a great way to spend an afternoon, but doing some good while you’re out paddling is even better.  Try a <a href="http://www.visitmarinadelrey.com/outdoor-recreation/by-boat" target="_blank" >kayak</a> for two, paddle along the Marina and pick up any trash you see floating by.  Your date and you will feel better about yourselves (PLUS you’ll get a great arm workout!).</p>
<p><strong>Explore With Metro</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Let’s face it; most people in L.A. don’t use the metro.  Why not be adventurous and hop on a line (subway or bus) and see where it takes you? The metro stops in many L.A. neighborhoods like Hollywood, Downtown, Chinatown and more.  The best part is you won’t have to worry about parking.  Still hesitant? Watch our video on <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/04/12/ydt-tv-how-to-take-the-bus/" target="_blank" >how to take the bus in L.A. </a></p>
<p><strong>Farmers’ Market Kitchen </strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>There is something quite intimate about preparing a meal together.  Head to your local <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/09/16/how-to-shop-at-the-farmers-market/" target="_blank" >farmers’ market</a>, pick up whatever tickles your fancy then head home and cook.  You’ll get to see your partner’s savvy skills in the kitchen and show off your inner chef.</p>
<p><strong>Sample Local Wines and Brews</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Fortunately Angelenos don’t have to venture too far for local wines and brews.  <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/11/19/take-a-trip-down-the-malibu-wine-road/" target="_blank" >Malibu wineries</a> are giving the Central Coast vintners a run for their money and <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/03/12/cheers-to-local-and-sustainable-beers/" target="_blank" >L.A. based beer makers</a> are having their brews requested nationwide.</p>
<p>Don’t have a date to take with you on all this fun? Visit <a href="http://www.howaboutwe.com/" target="_blank" >HowAboutWe.com</a> and propose one of these ideas to find your perfect eco-curious mate.</p>

<p><em><div class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20720" ><div class="visual-holder" ><div class="visual-frame" ><div class="visual" ><div class="t" ><div class="r" ><div class="b" ><div class="l" ><div class="tr" ><div class="br" ><div class="bl" ><div class="tl" ><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ken_duffy/2183300523/in/photostream/" target="_blank" ><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20720" title="Cocktails" src="http://yourdailythread.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Home-Carousel3.jpg" alt="" width="557" height="257" /></a></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></em>Not long ago, you might have ordered a cocktail and the only sign of green was the slice of lemon or sliver of lime sinking to the bottom of your standard gin. Now, with farmers’ markets sharing their bounty every day of the week and bartenders becoming masters in the art of mixology, you’re just as likely to find artisan liquor meets dragon fruit or organic <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2008/09/05/tru-vodka-honest-to-goodness-organic-vodka/" target="_blank" >vodka</a> with a float of rosemary at your neighborhood watering hole.</p>
<p><strong>Here are our must-try farmers’ market-to-cocktail concoctions around Los Angeles: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.akasharestaurant.com/" target="_blank" >Akasha</a> – Its Ruby Red Mojito made with local ruby red grapefruits and Crusoe organic rum will leave you feeling like it&#8217;s summer even in February.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.besohollywood.com/" target="_blank" >Beso</a> – If you’re looking to be bright-eyed, try the C Clearly made with Domaine de Canton, Chopin vodka, carrot Juice and fresh orange juice.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.copadoro.com/" target="_blank" >Copa D’Oro</a> – Have a La Vie en Rosato made with fresh black grapes, sage, Ketel One Citroen and Martini Rosato and you’ll be feeling like Edith Piaf. Or, if you’re feeling daring, you can make your own <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2008/05/30/eco-conscious-cocktails-modmix-organic-mixers/" target="_blank" >cocktail</a> choosing from a variety of organic ingredients like lychee, basil and pear.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.fordsfillingstation.net/" target="_blank" >Ford’s Filling Station</a> – A throwback to California’s history, the Sierra Madre is a spicy blend of organic Casa Noble tequila, fresh lime, organic agave nectar and jalapeño.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.thompsonhotels.com/hotels/la/hollywood-roosevelt/drink/library-bar" target="_blank" >Library Bar (Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel)</a> – Try one of any mixology master <a href="http://www.foodgps.com/market-crawl-with-bartender-matt-biancaniello/" target="_blank" >Matt Biancaniello’s</a> farm fresh drinks sourced regularly from his trips to the Santa Monica Farmers&#8217; Market.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.lagosantamonica.com/"  target="_blank" >Locanda del Lago</a> – For a truly relaxing aperitif, opt for the Jasmine Margarita made with <a href="http://yourdailythread.com/2010/01/04/ydt-tv-seasonal-fruit-salad-a-perfect-dish-for-new-years-eve/"  target="_blank" >seasonal</a> citruses and Theia organic jasmine liqueur.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.patinagroup.com/restaurant.php?restaurants_id=6" target="_blank" >Nick &amp; Stef’s Steakhouse</a> – With mint leaves, Oxley gin, Aperol, a dash of red bell pepper, grapefruit bitters and lemon, the Eurasian Cocktail is truly an East meets West combination of peppery and tart.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.thetastingkitchen.com/" target="_blank" >The Tasting Kitchen</a> – For fruity with a twist, order the Fruit Cup made with fresh Harry’s Berries strawberries, cachaça, lime and a splash Amaro Nonino.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.tavernla.com/" target="_blank" >Tavern</a> – Simple and crisp, the Poir Concombre is a muddle of Hendricks Gin, fresh pear and cucumber.</li>
</ul>
