The F Yeah Fest, which is in its fifth year, is going strong once again this Friday (8/29) thru Sunday (8/31). With a plethora of performances by bands and comedians like Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), there is so much to do and see at our own little local music festival I could just cry. Most of the festival is held at the Echoplex and on Sunday there is a five hour scavenger hunt that will take you all over Los Angeles and the winning team gets $500. So come support this local festival and help it grow. For more info, visit fyeahfest.net.

The popular art of Burlesque is having a major Renaissance here in Los Angeles, and you can catch some of the best our city has to offer on Saturday nights at East Side Luv. The bar is soaked in red wallpaper and leather, and though it is off the beaten path it is definitely worth the trek. The bar offers 25 different wines by the glass, and sangria that is to die for!

East Side Luv is located at 1835 East 1st St. (and Boyle), Downtown L.A., 90033. Phone: (323) 252-7442. Web: www.eastsideluv.com.
There aren’t two things in the world that could get me more pumped than The Faint and the Fonda. This Thursday and Friday you can catch this Omaha, NB band here in L.A. Casual sex may be irrational, but getting tix to this show is probably the most rational decision you could make. If you don’t know The Faint already, check them out on at www.thefaint.com or at iTunes. If you like The Rapture or Bloc Party, I promise you will love The Faint.

If you haven’t already stopped by El Cholo for their seasonal sweet green corn tamales then get your giddy up on before they’re gone for another year. This annual tradition lasts through October, and during this time you can also catch El Cholo’s very own Mariachi band on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

El Cholo has two locations: 1121 S. Western Ave. (and 11th), Downtownish 90006 and 1025 Wilshire Blvd. (and 10th), Santa Monica 90401.

Nothing is more touching than the story of a gawky, redheaded teen trying to win the love of the popular boy at school. The Cemetery is a fun outing: bring blankets, wine, and friends for a good time. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., with a DJ spinning before and the movie starting at sunset.

The first annual Brew Haw Haw is an outdoor beer festival that benefits cystic fibrosis. There will be live performances, music, food and beer from microbreweries all around! Tickets are $50 a person and MUST be purchased in advance. Event Info: Saturday, August 2nd from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m at the Autry National Center. To purchase tickets, visit losangeles.cff.org/brewhawhaw or email Kaitlyn @ kfitzgibbons@cff.org.

.

FOR FREE: Jazz by Quetzal Guerrero. As part of Grand Performances Summer series, this violinist/singer/guitarist/percussionist will be playing his music at noon on Friday at the California Plaza downtown. This is not the typical jazz you would hear in a smoky bar in New York (I know smoking isn’t allowed there anymore, but just bear with me here) — the music instead is a mix of Brazilian and Mexican sounds with a jazzy influence. Get your fill of free fun and expand your mind man… Event Info: Friday, August 1st at 12 p.m. 300 Block of S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, 90071.
SUNDAY FUN-DAY: Blue Velvet Pool Downtown. Sundays can be depressing: work is beginning to taunt you, your hangover is luring you back to bed and you probably shouldn’t have had that pizza pie at 3 a.m. this morning. Instead of putting on Sinead O’Connor and crying about it, why not head downtown to Blue Velvet? Their rooftop lounge and pool hosts a party every Sunday to help you unwind from the weekend and prepare for the week ahead. Event Info: Sunday, August 3rd from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 750 S.
