Organic spring wine and food pairings.
It’s rumored that organic grapes make better wine. With no chemical pesticides, added sulfites or preservatives allowed, we heartily agree. Certified organic wines are a great choice, especially if you are sulfite sensitive. We’ve selected four of our favorites and paired them with delicious recipes from some of our favorite food bloggers!
Hailing from organic wine mecca Mendocino County, Bonterra Organic Vineyards remains at the forefront of the organic wine movement since 1987. They’ve partnered with urban farm pioneers, Growing Power, to educate others on growing organics at home. Try their always-stellar Pinot Noir, for a warm, light red that fits effortlessly with Thyme Roasted Baby Beets from kiss my spatula.
Also try: Bonterra Organic Sauvignon Blanc.
The first producer of certified Biodynamic® Wine in the U.S., Frey Vineyards also calls Mendocino County home. Back by popular demand, Organic Gewurztraminer is a dry white wine; crisp and delightful on a spring afternoon. Try it with a simple Asian fusion such as 101 Cookbooks’s gorgeous Ottolenghi soba noodles with aubergine and mango.
Also try: Frey Organic Zinfadel.
Located near the Russian River, Jeriko Estate produces 18 distinctive Certified Organic wines. Produced in small quantities, Sauvignon Blanc with hints of honeysuckle is perfect for a warm evening. Pair it with grilled fish tacos from Tiny Urban Kitchen and dine al fresco.
Also try: Jeriko Estate Organic Brut Rose.
Vintners Estate Series Rosé 2008
The very first Certified Organic vineyard in Washington State, Badger Mountain, puts nothing but the best in their carefully crafted wines. Pick up a bottle of their delicately complex Vintners Estate Series Rosé partnered with linguine, seared scallops and meyer lemons from Blue Kitchen.
Also try: Badger Mountain Organic Seve.
