Show your pets how grreat they are!
This month is Responsible Pet Owner’s Month! Here we give you five tips on how to show your pet(s) that you pawsitively care:
1. Spay or Neuter your pet – Did you know that in just one year 2.7 million animals were euthanized, making it the number one killer of dogs and cats in the U.S.?* To stop euthanasia, which is used as a means to prevent shelter overcrowding, Found Animals is offering 450 FREE spay/neuter surgeries this weekend, February 19 & February 20 in honor of the first annual “SpayInLA” Day. To apply for an appointment and to learn more about spaying or neutering your pet, please visit foundanimals.org. To see location details and times, please click here.
2. Identify and tag your pet – According to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP) and the National Humane Society, a pet is lost every two seconds, resulting in over 10 million pets getting lost each year. What’s worse, less than 2 percent of cats and between 15 and 20 percent of dogs are ever returned to their owners. Blanket ID offers pet owners an economical and humane way of tagging and tracking their pets – and they last longer than metal ID tags, which often fade as time goes by.
YDT Giveaway: In conjunction with World of Green, we’re giving away one of these stylish pet tags by Blanket ID, which you can enter to win by telling us your favorite pet name in the comments section, below. The last day to enter is February 28.
3. Just as you wouldn’t want to eat foods loaded with additives and chemical ingredients, make sure to feed your pets good-for-them eats too. We recommend Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance or you can even go the extra step and make your own! To learn about the latest pet food recall, please click here.
4. Keep toxic chemicals, medicines, and even plants like English Ivy and Tulips away from pets. For a full list of toxic and non-toxic plants, please visit the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
5. Make sure that you display a sticker on the front window of your apartment, house, etc. notifying officials that there is a pet inside your home (in case of emergency). Get your free sticker here.
