PumpOne: Your Personal Trainer To Go

An on-the-go personal trainer that fits in the palm of your hand.

Running, biking, hiking and stair-stepping galore!  At YDT, we’re always encouraging outdoor exercise.  Unfortunately though, many of them amp up cardiovascular endurance but lack when it comes to whole body strength training.

To learn some total body tips and tricks, I sat down with Declan Condron, the VP, Co-Founder and creative mind behind PumpOne Fitness, the world’s most comprehensive digital fitness database.   He also happens to be my big sis’s fiancé…wink, wink!

Colleen Donnelly: Let’s cut to the chase.  Free weight exercises or good old lunges, pushups, and chin-ups?  What’s our best bet for an amazing outdoor workout?

Declan Condron: For any workout whether indoors or out, I recommend a full body workout that targets all of the major muscle groups and joints in your body. Your entire workout can be done outside with minimal props – simply use your surroundings. 
It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a park bench, monkey bars and picnic table.

CD: What inspired you to develop PumpOne Fitness?

DC: PumpOne was inspired from my desire to provide people with the best, most accurate fitness information in an easy-to-use, accessible and cost-effective format.

CD: What is your active lifestyle mantra?

DC: I have always believed that fitness needs to be part of your lifestyle and not just a hobby, so I guess this would be my mantra. I get people asking all the time, “How can I get in shape for the summer?” or, “How do I look great for my wedding?”  My answer is always, “Don’t you want to look great for the rest of your life, not just for one specific date or event?”  Making fitness a part of your everyday life is essential and will stand by you always because it keeps you healthy, focused and active.

CD: How can YDT readers incorporate PumpOne into their green living lifestyle?

DC: Just download either FitnessBuilder or FitnessClass from iTunes, choose a workout and get active.  It’s as easy as that. We have workouts that cover every goal, fitness level, location, equipment and time frame. So if you are looking for a workout that requires no equipment, targets weight loss and endurance and can be done in only 15 minutes, we’ve got you covered.

CD: If you could give us one exercise to take home with us, what would it be?

DC: That’s a tough one.  I have a top ten list, but if I had to choose one it would be the “Clean & Press.”  I know it sounds weird but it’s actually a very practical, basic movement the average person performs multiple times a day.  Think of it as picking something up off the floor and lifting it above your head to place on a high shelf. You can use pretty much anything like dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, sandbags, a gallon of milk, even your little niece, just don’t let go of her.  Only kidding…
