Slow Down In SLO

Slow Down In SLO

Why not take a break from the hustle and bustle with a mini retreat this weekend. Just three hours north is the friendliest little town of San Luis Obispo where life moves at a peaceful pace.

Stay: Petit Soleil Bed & Breakfast

Surrounded by a cobblestone courtyard and al fresco patio, this fifteen room b&b is a european escape in the heart of town. Each room is so enticingly French and cozy, you won’t want to leave. In true Provencial form all guests enjoy a gastronome breakfast in the a.m. and end with a glass of wine in the p.m. The best way to start and end your leisure days.

.

Eat: Sally Loo’s Wholesome Cafe

Located in the Railroad District and just a short walk from the train station is my favorite lunch cafe. Just reading the menu alone makes my mouth water. Named after a pitbull (not on the premise) named Sally Loo, this hippy hot spot keeps me coming back for more. I can’t get enough of the local healthy cuisine and organic coffee shop goods. Try the soup of the day with a grilled Sir Thomas Turkey sandwich for sustained energy and a happy belly.

Discover: Thursday Night Farmer’s Market

Wanna have hickory smoked ribs with vine ripened peaches for dinner? Then wander on down to SLO’s weekly farmer’s market from 6-9 p.m. Over 120 vendors provide homegrown treats and live entertainment, all within walking distance of downtown’s historic mission. Grab some snacks and fresh fruit for the road trips ahead.

.

Pamper: Savvi Spa

Look and feel your best with a treatment from my favorite local eco spa. Pamper your soul and senses with a Savvi Express Package, which includes an Epicuren Express Facial (cleanse, scrub, steam, mask, moisturize) eyebrow wax, lash tint, and daytime mineral make-up application. You’ll hit the town refreshed and glowing!

.

Explore: Historic Mission & Downtown

Take the downtown trolley for a quarter and ride to the beautiful Spanish mission in center of town. Soak up over 250 years of history within the vibrant interiors and fragrant gardens thanks to Father Junipero Serra. Have a snack in Mission Plaza by the fountain before you head over to Higuera Street to shop with the locals. The parish is open for tours daily from 9a.m.-4p.m. with Mass services on Saturdays and Sundays.

Entertain: Sunset Drive-In Theater

Right off the 101 Freeway is a great spot to watch a movie under the stars with a friend or honey. Watch a double feature for only seven bucks at the town’s longest running drive-in theatre. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. and goes until right before midnight.

.

.

Day Trip: Eos Estate Winery

Drive about 45 minutes north to visit Eos Estate Winery, a spacious Mediterranean-styled estate with eco-friendly wine offerings. With state-of-the-art technology, solar powered fields and fertile soil, the Arciero family has earned multiple awards for their wine and green efforts. Eos encourages guests to sit outdoors amid the lush rose gardens, palm, olive and oak trees while sipping a complimentary wine flight. Open seven days a week from 10a.m. to 5p.m.

Did you say “vine ripened peaches”? It’s Thursday night and I’m going to look all over downtown SLO for the farmer with the peach vines!
