Kickstart The Bees’ Comeback

Bee the Change for Vanishing Honeybees

The term Colony Collapse Disorder first made its appearance a few years ago, but what keeps disappearing are bees, for probably a host of reasons. The Daily Green reports that last winter, approximately a third of all bee colonies in the U.S. met their end. And, many beekeepers lost almost half their existing bees. Why does this matter? Bees are pollinators, fertilizing a good percentage of the food we eat. No bees, no lunch. Or at least no apples, oranges, almonds, raspberries, lots of veggies, and the list goes on and on.

Angelenos Maryam Henein and George Langworthy have recently completed their documentary, The Vanishing of the Bees, which features the voice of actress Ellen Page and the stories of bees, beekeepers and scientists from around the country on this topic.

You can be part of the honeybee solution with their “Bee The Change Campaign” underway at kickstarter right now. Support the cause, get a DVD of the movie with your donation and bring the bees one step closer to reappearing through efforts like getting the word out and building bee sanctuaries where this invaluable species can frolic.

See the film trailer and help kickstart the campaign before National Honeybee Awareness Day August 21st.
