Go Frost Yourself

Go Frost Yourself

Go Frost Yourself

We’re talkin’ Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwiches, with mint filling. Creamy vanilla frosted Red Velvet or Chocolate Cupcakes. Oh, and did we mention that they’re all gluten, dairy, egg and soy-free? While you will have to purchase these vegan goodies from their bakery, you can enjoy Babycake Bites (think: doughnut-holes) and more at Babycakes Los Angeles’s, slightly overdue, yet highly anticipated opening, hosted by our pals at Healthy Bitch Daily. Why? I think this video says it all http://vimeo.com/6596217.

Location: Pacific Electric Lofts (http://pelofts.com/), 610 South Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014  Date/Time: Thursday, June 24 from 8 to 11 p.m. RSVP: Please email carly@healthybitchdaily.com before 5 p.m. this evening to get on the guest list. Be sure to mention that you heard about the event through Your Daily Thread  Web: http://www.babycakesnyc.com/.

Sometimes Peace Isn’t Quiet

Armed only with a whistle (and a DJ, some drinks and food), Falling Whistles, a campaign for peace in Congo, hopes to turn weapons of hate into weapons of hope and rehabilitation at this week’s Last Friday Benefit. Purchase a whistle or Wellness Bag at the event and all proceeds from the sale will go to rehabilitating and advocating for war-affected children. Why? You may not like what you read here, but this is your chance to stand up and make some noise about it.

Location: Courtyard next to monkie boutique, 2665 Main Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405 Date/Time: Friday, June 25 from 6 to 10 p.m.  RSVP: Please email Melissa at akv.party@gmail.com  Web: http://www.fallingwhistles.com.

Time to Take in the Welcome Mat

The rumors are true: after more than 22 years of playing host to over 15,000 visitors, the Original Eco-Home in Los Feliz is shutting its doors for good. What was once an ordinary 1911 California bungalow was transformed into an Environmental Demonstration Home becoming a home-base (literally) for those interested in learning how to “live, design and build with the earth and future generations in mind.” If you have not already toured it or need one last chance to say your goodbye, the last tour will take place this Sunday, June 27. Why? There’s still time to bring eco-home’s tricks (such as how to install solar panels) to your own digs.

Location: Eco-Home, 4344 Russell Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027  Date/Time: Sunday, June 27 at 2 p.m.  Cost: $10 per person  RSVP: Please call 323-662-5207  Web: http://www.ecohome.org/ .

It’ll be a Dog Day – er, Afternoon!

While Launch Parties and free goody bags may not mean much to your pooch, you’re always up for an afternoon soiree, especially if Bagel, your adorable Beagle, can tag along. Grab some refreshments for yourself and an outfit for your pup at the launch party of the Paul Frank Pet Line. Be sure to check out their “Avant Garde” retractable leashes, as they are recyclable and for every one sent in for recycling, $10 will go to the Center for Biological Diversity that’s currently working hard to end off shore drilling and hold those responsible for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico accountable. Why? You just can’t decide between their London Calling Leash and Rambo version – good thing there will be pet adoptions onsite!

Location: The Healthy Spot, 8525 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90069  Date/Time: Sunday, June 27 from 12 to 4 p.m. RSVP: Please email amber@26barsandaband.com Web: http://26barsandaband.com/.

Write On!

Once upon a time a group of professional women writers sought to create a community which would empower (at risk) teenage girls through creative writing and self expression. After nine years of working to achieve this goal, WriteGirl asks that you join them to celebrate this milestone, as well as the publication of their newest book, Beyond Words (written by the teenagers of seasons past). There will be surprise celebrity guests, a silent auction, a light lunch and more! Why? We can’t think of a better ending to such an inspiring story.

Location: Writers Guild of America Theatre, 135 South Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90211  Date/Time: Saturday, June 26 from 1 to 5 p.m.  Cost: Please purchase your $20 ticket in advance  Web: http://writegirl.org/.
