LA Welcomes the A+D Museum

LA Welcomes the A+D Museum

Alright art snobs (like moi), check it out…A+D gets a permanent home! This past Monday night Angelenos celebrated their passion for architecture in a new space. Crowds of sophisticated architectural engineers and elegant women filled the art deco building located at 6032 Wilshire Blvd., a few yards down from their old residence. I had a last minute opportunity to attend their opening reception and silent auction, which required a bit of quick glam on my part. Break out the dress and heels!

As a spectator amongst LA’s powerful players, I did a bit of floating and observing. Loads of benefactors and donators were there to show support and bid on intricate sculptural forms out for auction. I did notice several architectural firms on the list, and a few surprises like David Arquette and Courteney Cox, Kelly Wearstler, Audi, BMW and Pixar. Tom Schnabel of KCRW was host DJ and waiters served up delicacies to delight any palette. The energy made me feel groovy and ready to drop a few hundie on this non-profit museum…but not to get too excited!

This affair was private, but the A+D Museum is now open to the public. Memberships start at $25 for a student and go up to $75 for a family. Along with free admission to VIP events and the museum, you get free admission to their Urban Hike Series, which are organized tours of LA’s forgotten architecture. A great way to explore LA and appreciate past genius. Very cool!
