Eco-Books On The Radar

Eco-Books On The Radar

Almost ready for summer reading?  Check out what is on our must read list.

Eating Animals:

As I participate in “Meatless in May” I’m very excited to read this book from Jonathan Safran Foer that chronicles his personal quest between being an omnivore and vegetarian.  Safran Foer delves into his research wholeheartedly by visiting Factory Farms in the middle of the night to searching through his past justifications for eating the meals that he has eaten and how we tend to forget the process that the animals go through to become our food.  As I take my own one month pledge to go vegetarian, I’m intrigued and think other non-vegetarians participating in the campaign will be as well.  Click here to get Eating Animals online.

*Book Club Alert:  We’ll be reviewing this book at the end of the month as part of a mini book club, so be sure you’ve got it read by June 1st.

Shift Your Habit:

Frugality has never been as fashionable as it is now.  In Shift Your Habit, author Elizabeth Rogers breaks down how each shift towards an eco-friendly habit can benefit you (financially), the planet (environmentally) and you again (personally).  The book opens with a line that resonates well with what we stand for here at YDT.  “Going green doesn’t mean spending big bucks on organic food, solar panels, and hybrid cars. At its core, green living is simply about moderation, efficiency, and, believe it or not, living less expensively.” The book delivers exactly that by focusing on simple shifts we can do in our lives with what we already have.  Click here to get Shift Your Habit: Easy Ways to Save Money, Simplify Your Life, and Save the Planet online.

Hot Rich and Green:

Sorry guys, this one is about the ladies :)    The book “Hot, Rich and Green” written by Rebecca Harrell Tickell (Producer and wife of Josh Tickell of Fuel)  is a fun collection of stories about different women (many from the Los Angeles area) who have followed their passions to merge green living with their business goals.  For the book, “Hot” refers to more than just looks, but rather what they’re impassioned about and “rich” refers to more than just financial wealth, but also personal wealth and quality of life.  If you’ve been interested in pursuing your own green dreams, this book is worth picking up for some simple inspiration.  Women featured vary from successful published authors like Anna Getty and Rory Freedman to popular bloggers like Siel Ju and event scientists like Vanessa Meier.

YDT Giveaway:  Want your own source of inspiration?  Subscribe or Invite Friends to Join YDT and you’ll be entered to win 1 of 3 copies of Hot, Rich and Green!  Winner will be picked on May 10th.  Good luck!
