Coachella: Big Festivals Can Be Eco-Friendly

Coachella: Big Festivals Can Be Eco-Friendly

This past weekend’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival didn’t only have an amazing line up of music groups, it showed how even a festival for 75,000 people  (and probably more) could operate with sustainability in mind.

There was composting, carpooling (aka CarpoolChella) and that just the basics.  All cups and plates from the bar and food vendors were compostable, human energy was used to power DJ stations and solar power was used to power an art installation.

Recycling was a big part of the festival too.  Unwanted tents were collected for Haitian Relief efforts, free water was given to people who brought back 10 empty plastic water bottles to recycle or you could by a reusable Coachella Bottle and get free water the whole weekend.

Carpoolers were also entered to win free VIP access (through Global Inheritance) for life.  Pretty cool all around.  Even the food was on the greener side with organic and vegan favorites from The Green Truck, Cool Haus, Luscious Vegan Cupcakes and more.  Check out a few snap shots from our favorite eco-happenings this past weekend and learn more about Coachella’s sustainability programs at http://www.coachella.com/event/sustain….
