Roughly one in eight people in the world do not have access to safe water. On March 22nd World Water Day and WaterAid raised awareness of the global water crisis, a large public health issue. Even though World Water Day has passed, the concern for clean water goes on.
One of the viable and safe solutions for providing safe drinking water is to collect rainwater in local communities. Rainwater harvesting is a simple and low cost technique that’s sustainable and permanent where rainwater is prevalent. The benefits include not only sanitation but also empowering the community to manage their own water supplies for generations to come.
What does this have to do with beauty? Simply this. You can support clean water efforts all over the world by choosing which products you buy. Many companies are making the campaign for clean water a priority e.g. Amoeba Music, Gibson Foundation, Nature’s Gate, and The Starbucks Foundation.
Get involved with your voting dollar! Look for the clean water logo on your favorite Nature’s Gate products, which automatically supports WaterAid upon purchase. With the collective funds, rainwater harvesting structures are installed at local schools and health clinics where water is scarce. I love their classics such as Rainwater Clarifying Shampoo and Awapuhi Volumizing Conditioner
. You also can’t go wrong with anything from their Organics Line.
Nature’s Gate is available at most grocery stores, drug stores, and at all Whole Foods locations. Read more about Nature’s Gate and WaterAid.
YDT GIVEAWAY: Nature’s Gate is giving away one of their classic products to a new member of YDT.
WaterAid enables the world’s poorest people to safe water and sanitation. They have programs in 26 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, south Asia and the Pacific region. This is their life long commitment, not just a day or a fad.
Visit WaterAid America to get involved at any level. Give a unique gift like a handpump, faucet or tool that will change lives and transform communities who might otherwise go without clean water. A $24 donation to WaterAid will provide two faucets for a village water point. These items will be used in communities for rainwater harvesting.
