A Single Girl’s Valentine

A Single Girl’s Valentine

O Valentine’s day… well let’s just say the holiday isn’t for everyone.  If you’re feeling especially anti V-day this year, check out our Rockin Single Girl’s Green Guide to the City and pour some love on yourself (and boys you can partake too).

Who Needs Romance, You’ve Got Endorphins:

Take a deep breath and repeat after me: “Roses are red, violets are blue, it’s almost Valentine’s Day, and there is so much to do!”

Start off your day by taking advantage of the beautiful L.A. weather and get that bum of yours outside!

Visit Escondido Canyon Park in Malibu. Make sure to bring a camera as this park features a 150 waterfall, which is the highest fall in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Find inner peace and clear your head of any pesky Valentine’s Day reminders at any one of these donation based yoga studios:

Show Yourself Some TLC With a Bit of Pampering:

..

The Petite Spa in Santa Monica is your sanctuary away from V-Day Fatigue.

Opt for an Organic Facial, which utilizes Dr. Alkaitis’ holistic skin food products (“a certified wild crafted organic skin food line” which does not contain any chemicals or preservatives). Or, relax with any one of their body treatments like the refreshing Organic Sea Salt Scrub.

Got a specific area that needs a lil’ attention?  Studio Alexandria LA is an “eco-friendly” salon in Brentwood, which specializes in Advanced Body Sugaring services. Instead of wax, Studio Alexandria LA uses a “sugar paste” made up of lemon, sugar and water, to remove unwanted body hair. The sugar paste is “100% hygienic,” “natural,” “biodegradable” and good enough to eat (trust me, I tried it!).

….Be Sweet To Yourself:

After sugaring your body, give your tummy some sweet sugar at. Compartes Choclatier on Barrington.  They have rich, mouth-watering, handmade chocolate truffles, made with fresh ingredients and no artificial additives or preservatives.

Who needs Mr./Ms. Right when you’ve got Yummy Cupcakes? These cupcakes are made from scratch using “quality, fresh ingredients from local growers.” Their packaging is “eco friendly” as well! With scintillating flavors, you’ll be thankful to have these cupcakes all to yourself.

I can’t keep my eyes off of the Chocolate Merlot, a delicious blend of merlot, berries, plum and black currants, topped with a chocolate merlot buttercream.

Show Love to the Ones You Love:

Restaurants on Valentine’s Day usually require reservations and have overpriced fixed menus so skip the unnecessary waste of time, travel and money and instead have friends over for some dinner, drinks and, of course, dessert. Ask friends to bring over a bottle of their favorite organic/sustainable wine and/or a dish or dessert made with their favorite seasonal and local ingredients.  We’ve got some tasty  recipes to try here.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Hot Stuff!
