The Organic “O Burger”

The Organic “O Burger”

Does the thought of eating traditional burgers from factory-farmed cows make you want to gag?  After watching Food Inc it certainly does for me.  In fact, since YDT’s Meatless in May campaign meat has increasingly become a smaller and smaller part of my diet (after all its production is one of the biggest contributors to Global Warming).  As a self-described “Flexitarian” and “compassionate carnivore” , I do make a few exceptions for when I do allow meat into my diet.

They include Meat  that is:

  • Organically Raised (antibotic/preservative/steroid/checmical free)
  • Free Range

Fortunately the food at O Burger in West Hollywood meets all my criteria.  O Burger opened about a year ago and has been turning out delicious, free range and grass fed hamburgers, hotdogs and for the non-beef eating crowd, turkey burgers, veggie burgers and fries.  Need something to drink?  Try a delicious vegan shake or an organic soda or kombucha. Every single ingredient from the vegan Chipotle sauce to the burger buns is organic.

If you’re wondering what kind of a difference grass fed beef makes for your health, chew on these facts.  Grass fed beef is high in Omega 3s (essential fatty acids that have health benefits) and vitamins A and E while being low in calories (think skinless chicken).

But the real question is how does it taste?  Pretty damn good.  On my recent visit, the meat was tender, flavorful (I got the hamburger with Chipotle Sauce, sans cheese), not overfilling (no subsequent food coma) and the best part of all was that I felt good supporting a company trying to make a difference in an industry that doesn’t always seem to care.
