If you didn’t get a chance to go last weekend, now is your final shot at seeing the documentary film Crude, which chronicles Chevron’s mismanagement of oil spills in Amazonian Ecuador.  The movie not only touches on environmental issues, but on humanitarian ones as well as the film covers the sickness, pollution and diseases that the local people must now live with every day.  A great David and Goliath story directed by Joe Berlinger (of the famed documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster).  Thursday, September 24th is the last day to see it in L.A.

Cool Veggies for your Fall Garden

Two of ydt’s favorite locals are partnering together for a fun workshop that will get everyone gardening.  The East Side’s Green Beacon is hosting a Vegetable Gardening workshop with Christy Wilhemi of Gardnerd.  You’ll learn how to grow your own salad greens, broccoli, root veggies and more (all from heirloom varietal seeds).  The class is almost full so you must RSVP to attend:

Abbot Kinney Festival: The Green Scene

The 2009 festival is happening this Sunday, September 27th from 10 to 6 p.m.  Over 150,000 individuals are expected to attend the event that will feature a wide array of local vendors, foodies and more.  Be sure to check out the “Green Scene” LA Eco-Village featuring some of the great Los Angeles environmental resources and non-profit organizations.  Our friends from Causecast.org — a site dedicated to raising awareness for world wide causes will be featured at the festival too.

Have a Drink for TreePeople

On Tuesday the Library Ale house is helping out with TreePeople’s Mountain Forestry program by donating a portion of its proceeds from 4 p.m. to closing.  So if you’re in the neighborhood, come get a drink and do some good.  Library Ale House is currently carrying some tasty seasonal brews—my personal favorite is New Belgium’s sustainable Hoptober. It’s perfect for fall.  As a bonus, the pub will also be selling raffle tickets for some fun prizes –proceeds go to TreePeople.
