San Francisco Airport Offsets Carbon

San Francisco Airport Offsets Carbon

Gavin Newsome, the mayor of San Francisco, has come up with a way to minimize the heavy impact of air travel. This Thursday the San Francisco’s International Airport introduced the newest innovation for easing the mind of eco-friendly travelers. The Climate Passport Program gives travelers the option to purchase carbon offsets for their flight at kiosks set up throughout the airport. Funds collected from this project will go towards planting tress in the Garcia River Forest, a conservation-based forest management project in Mendocino County, through a San Francisco carbon firm called 3Degrees. It will also go towards the San Francisco Carbon Fun, which will finance other carbon-offsetting projects. While this is not an ideal preventative measure, the mayor and other officials are still hopeful about the offsetting potential of this program. To learn more, see this article at TreeHugger.com.
