LA Green Drinks at El Cid

This Thursday, September 17th, El Cid on Sunset Blvd. is the place to be. Not only can you mix and mingle with the LA Green Drinks crowd at the historic Flamenco Dinner Theatre, but you will also get a chance to check out the trailer for Crude, a new film by Joe Berlinger which opened September 9th and covers oil contamination in the rainforests of Ecuador. Rumor has it there may even be a Q&A Session after, so be sure to show up, smile and support the Weho/Silverlake LA Green Drinks event and this interesting film.

If you’re into eco-art, then you won’t want to miss Gregory Michael Hernandez’s studio visit Thursday evening from 6-9 pm. Not only is this event free, arty and complete with beer, but it also benefits a great cause: the Los Angeles River. Get a sneak peak of the artist’s work (which contains photos of the river) via the Friends of the Los Angeles River website. To support its work to restore our city’s waterway, FOLAR will graciously accept donations.

Heal-the-Bay-Coastal-Clean-Up-Day
Coastal Clean Up, Come On Out

This Saturday, September 19th marks the 24th annual Coastal Clean Up Day. You can makehistory once again by joining Heal the Bay from 9 am to noon as volunteers pick up trash from beaches, rivers, streets and parks. 15,000 people are expected to turn out to 90 different locations–some are considered code red and really need some extra eco-attention. If you need a little extra motivation to get up early and clean the coast (and if you happen to be participating in a Coastal Clean Up in the OC), the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is offering a “clean up the place, clean up your face facial.” Details on that promotional offer found here .

Support Skateboarders this Sunday at Hella Epic

The kids are back in school and that can only mean one thing—bring on the skateboards commuters. This Sunday, September 20th you are invited to the Santa Monica Boys and Girls Club to support Hella Epic, a Back To School Skateboard Giveaway. Sponsors include Via Alloro and Bravo Pizza. There will be demos, a DJ and free stuff for kids. Skateboarding is a great outlet and also serves as an exercise alternative!
