Grilled Fresh Figs with Thyme Agave Syrup

Grilled Fresh Figs with Thyme Agave Syrup

Recipe posted by Amy Vig of www.deliciousbynature.com.

Fresh, perfectly ripe figs need almost no extra cooking or manipulating to make them outstanding.  And that’s good news given the heat wave that’s currently sweeping California.  No oven heating for this recipe.  Just a little, brief heat on your stove and you have a lovely and fancy dessert that is both nutritious and delicious.

If you don’t own a grill pan, feel free to try these on your outdoor grill.  Brush the oil onto the figs rather than the grill pan as I’ve indicated below and you should be good to go.  Just be careful that your figs don’t fall through the grates when cooking and turning them!

Ingredients
Serves 4
1 pint fresh figs
2 Tbsp olive oil
¼ cup agave syrup (or honey if you prefer)
leaves from 1-2 sprigs fresh thyme

Instructions

Slice figs in half lengthwise.  Heat a grill pan over medium high heat and brush with olive oil.  Place figs, cut side down, onto pan and grill about 2 minutes until you see sear lines.  Remove from pan to a serving plate and place cut side up.

In the meantime, heat agave in a small saucepan with thyme leaves over low heat.  Allow to heat through, about 5 minutes, until agave is warm and flavors have melded together.  Drizzle agave and thyme over figs.  Top with large flake sea salt and/or crème fraiche if desired.
