Hemp Walls: Lighter, Stronger and More Sustainable Than Concrete

hemcrete
Developed and currently produced in the United Kingdom, “Hemcrete” is an all-around superior substitute to concrete. While buildings are currently responsible for thirty eight percent of emissions in this country, Hemcrete is actually be carbon negative, since more CO2 is locked in the hemp than is released during production. Hempcrete is made of lime, water and hemp, and is completely recyclable—it can even be used as fertilizer! Hemcrete is lighter than concrete, and is seven times stronger. This amazing alternative has only recently emerged in North America, and remains an expensive option because the strain of hemp used for Hemcrete is illegal to grow in America (for now). Read more about this incredible concrete substitute here.
