State Parks have received lots of attention over the last few weeks due to the fiscal crisis in California. Fortunately the 200 parks that were slated to be shut down has been reduced to 100 parks–unfortunately that is still too many. So from now until Labor Day weekend take action with the I heart State Parks campagin. There will be on going events from now until Labor Day (September 7) where you can show your support for the parks.
In Los Angeles County Specifically there are two events happening on Saturday September 5th
The first event is the FYF fest at the Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles. Tickets are $20 for a line up of fun acts and raising awareness about the crisis that State Parks are in. You can also volunteer for a local community group and get free tickets too. For more info email mary@calparks.org
In Culver City there will be a “Save Our State Parks” event at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Outlook on Saturday, September 5th. Email advocacy@calparks.org
On a more inspiration note:
A while back we wrote about conservationist photographer Ian Shive. He has just come out with a beautiful book dedicated to his tour of National Parks across the U.S. His work is inspirational, and highlights the beauty we have all around us and that we may loose if we don’t take care of our planet. We were fortunate to attend his launch party and grab a sneak peak at the work he’s done over the last few years. Check out the book here and watch this video on Current TV about his experiences.
You can also read more about the book launch on the Pink Cloud Events Blog (Pink Cloud co-hosted the Fabulous Event with TreePeople).
