Revitalize Low-Income Communities

Revitalize Low-Income Communities

Yesterday an initiative called “Green the Block” was unveiled at the White House by two grassroots organizations, the Hip Hop Caucus and Green For All. These organizations joined forces with two of Obama’s cabinet members to create the Green the Block coalition, focused on greening efforts in minority and low-income communities throughout the nation. “Future generations will measure us by our success in transitioning from a fossil fuel economy to a clean energy economy,” explained Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr, president of the Hip Hop Caucus,  “and in the process building opportunity and prosperity for our most economically disenfranchised communities.” Efforts of the campaign range from inner-city training for clean energy jobs, to creating energy efficient low-income housing.
