Figgin Good Smoothie

No really….this smoothie deserves the Holy Sh*t dance! At the end of July my fig tree was kind enough to offer up 3 pot belly figs to my lab…..otherwise known as the Blending Station. By the way, did you know that figs are good for most diets? High in fiber, calcium and other nutrients, you can't turn these puppies down. Sometimes the best recipes are developed when one is in a playful mood and there is no attachment to the outcome……as in this case. This really should be called a Peanut Butter Smoothie (because that’s what it tastes like)….but since it is fig season the name represents well…..

In Celebration of Salad: Delicious Lettuce Only Salad Recipe

Organic Heirloom LettuceRecipe by Christy Wilhelmi, the Gardenerd It never fails. When I arrive for dinner at a friend’s house with a bowl of home-grown salad greens, they pause — eyeing its simple state — and then ask if I need to add anything to it before serving. Business, family, as well as government properties have all shared in this reduction. According to the Department of Water and Power, there has also been a dramatic downsizing of electricity usage in Los Angeles; by the end of June, the equivalent of 178,700 metric tons of greenhouses gases were saved from ...

BPA Scare Solution: SIGG’s Eco-Friendly Water Bottles

sigg_water_bottlesA Swiss company called SIGG produces internationally renowned, reusable water bottles that you might own, or have seen amongst your eco-friendly friends. SIGG's durable bottles are recyclable, but maintain the proud label of "World's Toughest Water Bottle" from Backpacker magazine. There has recently been concern regarding trace levels of BPA (also known as Bisphenol A, a hormone mimicker that research suggests may have carcinogenic and reproductive effects) in their bottle lining. The company assured consumers that no BPA h...
