Basic Needs:  Food – A discussion at the Ecology Center That’s Bringing Green to the O.C.

So it seems that the green movement is making its way down to our neighbors in the south as today the Ecology Center is kicking off its summer series aimed at fostering dialogue on the most pressing issues of the day. “The purpose of the series is to provide a foundation for making decisions that have a positive ecological impact. To that end, we are providing a forum where the residents of Orange County can explore these crucial topics with cutting-edge thinkers from a variety of backgrounds.”  Tonight the discussion will be around one of our most basic needs: food, with Michael Besançon of Whole Foods Market leading the discussion.  There will be light food, beer and wine to entertain throughout the conversation.

The End of the Line: Imagine a World Without Fish

If you didn’t get your fill of food/animal related documentaries last week with Food INC, the The End of the Line might be right up your alley.  The film touches on the major problems going on in the world’s oceans from overfishing to overpolluting.  The filmmakers have even created a handy “What kind of fish can I eat widget” to help you figure out which fish are most sustainable.  Personally I’ve almost decided to forgo all fish due to these issues (with the exception of WILD salmon from Alaska and the occasional yellow tail sushi I adore).  The film premieres on Friday at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

The Last Bee Keepers
Los Angeles Film Festival’s Got Environmental Docs:

The Los Angeles Film Festival
begins this week and with it comes not only great independent films, but also inspiring environmental one.  What’s on the ydt radar:  Pick 1:  This Saturday the Swedish film “Bananas” which chronicles the case of Nicaraguan banana laborers who claim to have been poisoned by pesticides.  Upon completion of filming, new case elements arose and the issue of what happens when a story continues to evolve is covered in the film as well.
Pick 2: “The Last Bee Keeper”:  The bee issue has been in the news for some time and this one covers the struggles of three American bee keepers and the devastating economic and ecological effects that come along with disappearing of our most valuable pollinators. View the complete environmental films listing of these and other films throughout the festival here.

Xtend life skin care

The sun is one major external factor that can do damage to your skin. When you get too much sunlight it will damage the free radicals. Another factor is cigarette smoke which will make your skin lose its texture and sheen. It also reduces the blood flow in your skin which is vital to your skin
