LA Times Festival of Books
It’s here at last, the yearly festival where lovers of the written word congregate under one roof and celebrate. There will be over 300 exhibitors, 100 author panels and interviews with great writers like Gore Vidal and web journalists like Arianna Huffington. Be sure to check the site for complete details. The Lunafest is an inspiring film series made by women for women (guys are invited too.) This year it will screen 10 short films that “celebrate the unique, touching and inspirational roles of women in our local, national and international communities.” All the funds collected from the event will support the Breast Cancer Fund. Healthy goodies and wines will be provided by Clif Bar, Theo Chocolates and Whole Foods. Also there will be an awesome raffle with prizes including a bike, yoga classes, eco jewelry, gym memberships and more.

Join Path to Freedom as the family screens the documentary “Food Matters” and participate in their vegetarian potluck. Attendees are encouraged to bring food grown within a 100 mile radius of their L.A. homes (translate: from Santa Barbara to San Diego). About the film: “Food Matters seeks to uncover the business of disease and at the same time explore the safe, cheap and effective use of nutrition and supplementation for preventing and often reversing the underlying causative aspects of the illness.
