Non Toxic Color

Why does being a woman often include surrounding yourself with toxic chemicals?  That question seems to come up daily as we discover the ingredients inside of our hair dyes, nail polishes and even lipsticks. There are resources out there that can educate and help us, but as the individual consumers it is important to be aware of the ingredients and toxins you surround yourself with.

Susan Henry was another woman who saw this problem and wanted to do something about it.  As an A list colorist in Beverly Hills, Susan was constantly surrounding herself with chemicals from the hair color and began experiencing the effects of ammonia poisoning.  Not wanting to give up her career (and inspired by her daughter’s university studies in botany), Susan decided to create her own herb and natural based permanent color.   She opened up Shades Natural Color with the intention “that she and other women would not have to be slowly, but surely poisoned by the very products that were supposed to make them look and feel better about themselves.”

Walking into Shades is unlike any other hair salon experience.  What is noticeably missing is the chemical smell one is accustomed to experiencing at salons.  Instead you see happy, talented stylists who are working in a healthy environment and clients relaxing while they are treated with safe, natural ingredients and sip on delicious organic coffee.

Shades is a full service salon, so even if you don’t color your hair you can still come in for a full range of

treatments.  I recently went in for a scalp massage that used natural essential oils and got a cute cut and blow dry from stylist Tina Robinson.  The natural lighting, ingredients and setting made it a wonderful mini retreat from the every day grind.

Shades also has an online store if you want to buy the products and try them at home yourself.

Shades Natural Color is located at 144 S. Doheny  Beverly Hills, CA 90211  Tel:  310-275-4882              Web: http://shadesnaturalcolor.com
