*2006’s Assembly Bill 32 http: created this website where you can find out what’s being done to combat climate change in different categories like energy and transportation.
*Measure R, the half-cent sales tax increase to fund transportation projects (like more rail lines!), passed in November but won’t begin chugging for a few more years. Here’s the projected progress on that and our “subway by the sea .”
*We also passed Prop 1A in hopes of funding a high speed train between NoCal and SoCal.
*The Los Angeles Community College District has begun its massive off the grid, LEED and otherwise stellar building projects.
*The Green Port policy has reduced some emissions (but not carbon dioxide) from the ports in Long Beach and Los Angeles.
*The city of L.A. continues with its Sustainable Building Initiative.
*Joining ranks with China, San Francisco, and Malibu passed a plastic bag ban last year. Will anyone else follow in 09?

*And now that Bush is out and Obama is in the Oval Office, CA is asking the new president’s EPA Administrator to allow it to impose tougher standards on vehicle emissions to pave the way for blue skies after being denied by a former EPA official in 2007. Read the full story here.

Check with your utility company for its deals and incentives.
*The LADWP has rebates for energy efficient appliances, refrigerators and water-saving machines.
*Southern California Edison has a number of rebate offers in place as well.
