Elizabeth Moore has led a very creative life. For years she worked in film production as a set designer for the likes of Steve Martin, Cindy Crawford, Prince, Lenny Kravitz and more. Her skills as a visual artist and painter helped her to become a contestant on Bravo TV’s Top Design, and she shares her passion for art with her students as a professor of Production Design at various colleges throughout Southern California. In 2005 things changed for Elizabeth, she discovered the world of semi precious stones and felt a new calling. Froote Jewelry was born.

The jewelry business has notoriously held a bad reputation towards the

environment and humanitarian concerns of the people who work in the industry. With Froote, Elizabeth wanted to change all that.

“I wanted to create something that could be shared by others and that would remind others of the beauty they possess inside themselves, while simultaneously creating pieces that were reminders of the preciousness of the life we have on this planet.”

Froote Jewelry brings a level of eco consciousness to their line by using recycled packaging, metal scraps, and reused precious gems whenever possible. They are also seeking out manufactures that support Fair Trade labor, and humane working conditions. After speaking with Elizabeth personally, I know that this is an important issue to her, and that she is looking into Fair Trade certification as well.

Froote has also gained favor of the Green movement in Hollywood. The Face of Froote is Polish born actress and environmentalist Dominika Wolski. After spending some time on the set of Blood Diamond in Sierra Leone, Dominika became aware of the serious issues in the jewelry industry and wanted to support a company that was not adding to the destruction taking place. Sorry Meghan and Jessica – Froote still stands in a league of its own. I checked out both the designers you mention; kudos for their green aspects but their designs look a lot like other stuff I’ve seen at the gift lounges (done by many designers) but the unique color palette and energy of Elizabeth’s designs goes beyond anything anyone else is doing out there.
