If your staying put this Holiday, check out a few local events that are way better than store bought gravy ; )

Give Back: Gobble Gobble Give at the Echo

For 10 years the people at Gobble Gobble Give have been giving back to the Echo Park community on Thanksgiving. Come and help out by bringing food (either store bought or home made specialties), help pack up donations. If you can drive, you can help distribute them to the people in need in this community. The event takes place at The Echo and goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. DJ Daisy O will be there to musically inspire you as you are doing good for others. If you’ll be in town and want to volunteer please email barrywalker67@mac.com today.

Location: The Echo, 1822 Sunset Blvd. LA, CA 90026
Web: http://gobblegobblegive.org Date/Time: Thurs 11/27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Black Friday: The Indie Designer Secret at The Circle

Instead of fighting the mall crowds this Friday, why not check out one of Silver Lake’s little known jewels instead? The Circle is one of L.A.’s original designer outlets and carries over 40 top designers at prices that are 40-85% below retail prices. The Circle carries back stock and current stock so you can always find something that is in style now. They are having a massive after Thanksgiving this weekend. Curious? Give them a call to learn more at 323-665-5336 or check them out on MySpace.

Location: 2395 Glendale Blvd. LA CA Tel: 323-665-5336

Explore on LA’s Subway: The Red Line Pub Crawl

Brought to you by a good soul at Tribe.net. Consider spending the night after T-day exploring the bars and scenes of Hollywood and Downtown on and off of the Red Line Subway. The Subway is open till 3 a.m. on the weekends (I had no idea), so there is no excuse for drinking and driving. Plus the more that we use it, the more the city will realize that “If they build it (more subway) they will come (eager commuters).” You can find the most updated itinerary here.

Location: Meet up at Union Station Downtown Date/Time: Fri 11/28 8p.m.

Hollywood Classics: A Screening of Citizen Kane

Driving up highway 1 past Hearst Castle with co-founder Lauren last week, I was astonished to learn that she had never seen what many people in the know (“liberal arts professors, film critics, and the such) consider one of the greatest if THE GREATEST film of all time. Citizen Kane is the Orson Wells semi fictionalized biography of Publishing Tycoon William Randolph Hearst. If you weren’t forced to watch it in Film 101, the LACMA is screening it this Saturday. Show up at 5 p.m. for a free screening of “The Battle Over Citizen Kane” a documentary about the controversy that the film experienced in the beginning and then stay on for the Screening of Citizen Kane at 7:30 ($10 admission). For more information check out http://lacma.org/programs/FilmListing.aspx

Location: LACMA 5905 Wilshire Blvd. LA CA 90036
Date/Time: 11/29, 5 p.m. & 7: 30 p.m.
