GET SOME CULTURE: The Getty Museum at NightTake advantage of seeing the impressive exhibition of Lorenzo Bernini’s Baroque Portraiture in its last weekend on display here in Los Angeles. Many pieces were lent from collections all over the world, including Queen Elizabeth II’s. The Getty Museum stays open until 9 p.m. on Saturdays. Come during daylight hours to view the beautiful gardens, and stay through the night to see the museum come alive in a different way when the sun goes down. Best part is, admission is always free! Though it doesn’t feel quite like fall here in Los Angeles, Fall Foods are definitely showing up in grocery stores and farmers’ markets. Come to a town hall meeting with the former President of Doctors without Boarders, Dr. Orbinski the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize Winner. He will be discussing his new book, An Imperfect Offering: Humanitarian Action for the 21st Century and the award-winning documentary film, Triage: Dr. James Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma. Both the book and film feature the doctor’s reflections on his work during the Rwandan genocide, the Afghan civil war and other crises. If you’ve been curious to learn more about what goes into refugee work, this is a good opportunity. Also check out their education exhibit, A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City at the Crystal Spring Picnic Area in Griffith Park from now until October 27th. Sometimes, we can’t get to the weekend by Saturday. Fortunately a new Sunday watering hole has become available for us busy Angelenos at the Original El Cid. Come and taste authentic, 20-year old recipe on Sundays from 3 to 7 p.m. for $5. Also on Wednesday and Thursdays, if you take public transportation to El Cid, you get to see their cabaret show for free (a $25 dollar value)…not a bad deal for taking the bus!
