Weekend Guide
Paul Giamatti and David Strathairn join the L.A. Theatre Works Company in presenting
Norman Corwin’s The Rivalry, the story of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas’ famous 1858 debates for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois. Taken directly from the original transcripts, the play recreates the face off between Lincoln, an abolitionist candidate of the newly formed Republican party, and Senator Stephen Douglas, the Democratic incumbent and champion of states’ rights. Given our current political climate, it seems perfectly appropriate.
Date/Time: October 15-19 Location: The Skirball Cultural Center. 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90049 RSVP: (310) 827-0889. Web: www.latw.org. Cost: $20-$48
