No Wire Hangers? How to get green, clean & organized!

According to the Hanger Network, about 3.5 billion wire hangers get dumped into U.S. landfills every year, the equivalent of 60,000 cars. Think about the number of hangers you have accumulated from dry cleaners or clothing purchases.  Add to that a desk covered in unwanted mail, a closet filled with old clothes you never wear and bathroom drawers packed with not-so-eco-friendly toiletries.

This messy picture is the inspiration behind Julie Naylon’s green home organizing company, No Wire Hangers. Julie’s mission is simple: to help individuals get control over their stuff so that they can live more efficient, sustainable and, ultimately, happier lives.

I was lucky enough to have Julie visit my home, so I can say from experience that she is a true motivation to get your life in order.  Yes, we can all do little things to be more organized on our own, but when you’re in a rut, sometimes you just need an outside push to get you over the initial hump.  And that is exactly what Julie does!  She comes into your home or office and gets down and dirty with you, going through paper sheet by sheet, or clothing shirt by shirt, and helping you sort them into five categories:  Keep, Fix, Donate, Sell or Recycle.

She knows the ins-and-outs of recycling and donation centers in Los Angeles so you can be sure, for example, that your unwanted toiletries will be sent to the local women’s shelter rather than the landfill.  Finally, Julie sits down with you and figures out how to stop more junk from coming in and cluttering your life all over again. Plus, she can give you all sorts of green living tips.

If this sounds like a service you would benefit from, the best thing is to contact No Wire Hangers and inquire about an initial consultation.   Also, think ahead to the holidays: an afternoon with Julie might be the perfect gift for your friends or family who already have more stuff than they can manage.
