OKTOBERFEST: Honor your German heritage (or just pretend you are German for the day)

If getting to Munich wasn’t on your agenda this year, fear not for Oktoberfest has come to L.A.  Two festivals are happening this weekend, so pick whatever destination delights you.  Need more motivation?  When was the last time you were able to drink beer out of a stein and eat sausage all while wearing Lederhosen?

MUSIC MAN (or Woman):  Detour Music Festival Presented by L.A. Weekly

Come to City Hall in Downtown to see some great live bands perform.  With the variety of performers, music lovers of all ages and genres are bound to find something they enjoy.  This ydt contributor’s pick:  The Mars Volta!  Since it’s located Downtown (the transpo hub of the city), consider taking the subway and don’t worry about driving or parking.

THE RING OF FIRE: Viewing of Johnny Cash @ Folsom Prison Documentary

Check out the West Coast premiere of this documentary about the making of Johnny Cash’s famous At Folsom Prison Album.  Stay afterwards for the Q & A session with Director Bestor Cram.  Why:  “Cause it burns burns burns.”

APPRECIATE NATURE:  Mountain Planting with TreePeople

Give back by helping to plant 500 native pine seedlings in an area that’s been devastated by the bark beetle in the Angeles National Forest.  On top of it all, you get to spend a beautiful day in nature.
