What started three years ago as a venture between a trio consisting of two brothers and a friend designing and selling furniture on Craigslist has burgeoned indeed. Now, Viesso is a well-known green furnishings company with a Santa Monica showroom that has delivered sofas to the living and working spaces of the likes of MTV’s Real World and facebook.
At Viesso, the main attraction is its sofa collection, but it carries all manner of sitting, sleeping, eating, storing and accenting accoutrements. The crux of Viesso’s philosophy is customizing. Why settle for something close when you can create a piece that expresses your tastes and accommodates your specific needs and the needs of your space perfectly? Long legs? Big parties? Wonky living room layout? Anything and everything can be tailored to a tee.
The best part is that when considering your options, there are plenty of green ones to choose from. You start with a base that’s either FSC certified (for sofas and tables) or bamboo (for beds). Then, you get to the fun part of figuring out what you want to cover and fill it with, something you can do in person or through their online catalog. Pair a recycled polyester fabric with a natural latex filling from rubber trees or organic cotton with natural down and feathers inside—the sky’s the limit for the look and sustainable layers of your custom piece. (Did I mention they even do house calls to help you with your design decisions?)
