Gone Riding

Happy Memorial Day! If this weekend’s gloomy weather kept you in doors most of the time, take advantage of today’s sunny weather and do some horse back ridding.

The film industry first came to Los Angeles to take advantage of the sunny weather and scenic locations, especially for Westerns. A piece of that Hollywood history is still standing and can be found just at the base of the Hollywood sign at the Sunset Ranch Hollywood, a working stable that has been around since 1954.

Only in L.A. can you have a bit of the Wild West in your own back yard. The owner, Steve Smith Jr., is a true cowboy and champion bronc rider. The Ranch and horses have been in his family for years. Upon arriving, you lose the city and embrace the country and it becomes hard to imagine that a big, moving metropolis is less than a mile away.

The Ranch offers guided riding every day with one and two-hour rides between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. They also offer a lunch ride and one at dinnertime that takes you over the Hollywood Hills into Burbank for a meal at Viva Fresh Mexican Restaurant. After dinner you take a moonlight trot back to the stables to enjoy the beautiful city views at night. You can also take advantage of private/group lessons and boarding (housing for your horses). Riding these beautiful animals gives a new perspective on the natural beauty we are surrounded by every day.
