Not at Coachella this weekend? That’s ok! There will still be things to do and see here in the City of Angels, I promise.

SEE: Thinkspace in Los Feliz

This month the exhibit at Thinkspace is titled “Mergers and Acquisitions,” a show by artists Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters. The artwork is Henry Darger meets Gary Baseman, but less perverted. If that means nothing to you then I will suffice it to say the show is eery, childlike and intriguing. This fairly new gallery, opened in 2005, has openings on the 2nd Friday of every month, bringing you innovative artists from the Los Angeles area and beyond, so if you can’t make it to this show be sure to check out one of their upcoming exhibits.

4210 Santa Monica Blvd. 90029
Open Thurs. – Sun. 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

EXPLORE: Bob Dylan exhibit at the Skirball Center

A hard rain’s gonna fall if you don’t check out this show displaying artifacts and art from the span of Bob Dylan’s career (excuse the joke). Original drafts of song lyrics, posters and original concert recordings are on view, along with a section in which visitors can simulate playing along with Dylan on the keyboard, drums or organ. The show focuses on Dylan’s first ten years in the spotlight, and is must see for any true fan, so be sure to get there before it leaves on June 8th!

HEAR: Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro

The co-directors of the documentary Body of War will be speaking at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles this Friday the 26th at 7:30 p.m. Their documentary, which won the best documentary award from the National Board of Review, tells the story of an American, Tomas Young, who enlisted in the army after 9/11 and while on his first mission was shot and paralyzed. The bulk of the movie deals with Young’s return to the U.S., his disability and his new role as an anti-war voice.

CONTRIBUTE: “Heaven is Earth” at Fred Segal Santa Monica

Fred Segal is hosting a silent auction on Friday May 25th to support Heal the Bay, the local ocean conservancy team that has single-handedly cleaned up the water in and around Santa Monica. All proceeds will go directly to Heal the Bay, and if you aren’t interesting in shopping, go and sign the letter to Mayor Villaraigosa to fight single-use plastic bags.
