Green & Good
Silver Lake has boasted a new green living store since last September. What used to be Island LS, a clothing boutique, is now All Shades of Green, a place that can help you turn any shade of green you want—newbie lime all the way to deeply committed Crayola crayon’s “pine green.”
Right down the road from Trader Joe’s and kitty corner from Pinkberry (and next to a nail salon, of all things!), All Shades of Green is cozy one stop shopping where you can outfit yourself and your home or apartment to be part of the solution. You can get everything from a SIGG bottle and other to-go ware to bamboo bath towels. Some of my favorites are the sustainably-harvested wood wrist cuffs and dechlorinating shower filters (and, in the interest of full-disclosure, since I’ve been doing some work for them I’ve had ample chance to scope the shelves).
This place can take you to a whole new level of green if you want to go there. Its Design Center has environmentally-conscious remodeling materials and water-saving tools. And, there are loads of workshops taught by a staff Sustainability Coach on topics like creating a healthy home space, free of paint fumes and formaldahyde, and how to compost all of those banana peels and bread crusts you’ve been throwing away.
The next workshop is March 15th and will teach how to harness solar power. You can even learn how to use a solar cooker and get own of your own.
Saturday, March 15th; 9:30 a.m. to noon
$20.00; teachers: $15.00; students: $10.00
