Green & Good

The crafting revolution is well under way, so if you’re in it or want to be, The Little Knittery is definitely worth stopping in and checking out.
This nook of a neighborhood store is nestled in a row of small businesses on one of Atwater Village’s two main drags. It is the kind of place you’d like to drop by for a chat and a knit. And, that’s what customers do.
Julie, owner and knitter extraordinaire, stocks a wide variety of high quality yarns, including quite a few that are mostly wool or mostly alpaca, instead of generic acrylic and polyester fare, for soft, natural creations.
Not only that, she offers group and private reasonably-priced lessons for knitting novices and offers plenty of advice once you’re in process and can’t for the life of you remember how to purl or cast off.
Other classes focus on a specific, unusual project for those who’ve made enough scarves to last a lifetime—you can make cabled hand warmers, a knit cactus plant or a “Mr. Funky Owl”(courtesty of Narumi Ogawa) in just a couple of hours.
The joy of making something yourself is inexplicable—especially when you or someone you like gets to show that something off. If you’re interested in knitting your own cool weather accessories before spring or starting on gifts super early for next holiday season, get thee to The Little Knittery.
